Los Volcanes Recent Events
During the months of January, February and March 2008 Los Volcanes (LV), Share Your Care (SYC), Inc. had festive months full of fun times and singing entertainment. We had several guest performances by the music duo of Eva & Roy, Music with Gloria, Music with Clarence, Frank & Helen, Sing-a-long with Ann, David & the Debutantes Band and the Los Volcanes Senior Center Choir.
We had our monthly two visits from the Los Volcanes Child Development Center Pre-K Room. The children in the Pre-K Room came over and read a book to the participants and they sang and performed some nursery rhymes. The children then partnered up with a senior and played a game of Bean Bag Toss and Darts. Let me tell you “the site of seeing the participant’s eyes light up when the children approached the room is priceless as our participants watched on with awe”. The Children and our participants immediately connect with each other as the children great them as “grandmas and grandpas” and have such a great time visiting together. This Inter-generational Literacy Program is very popular with the consumers and continues to take place twice a month.
We took a group out to eat lunch on our ever so popular Community Outing the “Lunch Bunch” to the Applebee’s and Casa Grande Restaurants and the Hometown Buffet. This Lunch Bunch Community Outing continues to be a very big hit with the participants at LV, SYC. They go to a restaurant of their choice and enjoy social and community interaction as they share stories of their past with their peers.
We went for fun shopping and site seeing at Big Lot’s, Goodwill, the Dollar Store and Old Town Plaza. We went for a Scenic Drive for some nice site seeing down Rio Grande and Corrales Boulevards and to Tingley Beach. We took a group of participants to the Dynamax Theater, the Phone Museum, and Albuquerque Museum, to get ashes at church on Ash Wednesday, Donut Express and McDonald’s.
We had our monthly Art Classes with Karen, Terza, Eve and Bonnie and Massage Therapy with Jim which the consumers continuously enjoy. We went to visit and have lunch with the folks at Rio Rancho, Ponderosa and Barelas, SYC’s and they sent visitors from their sites to visit and have lunch with us at LV, SYC. We joined the folks at the LV Senior Center for their monthly Ice Cream and Pie Socials and their weekly Thursday Afternoon Dances, which they have a different live band performing every week.
We are currently planning our 6th Annual LV, SYC Mother’s Day Luncheon to be held on May 23, 2008. This event is where the participants get to invite one guest to attend a luncheon with music entertainment. The participants and their guest get to visit, network and introduce their loved ones to their peers. As always we continued to work hard at getting the LV, SYC site festively decorated and now we are working on getting our site decorated for spring 2008. The participants work together to get themed collages generated and they paint/color/draw different arts & crafts decor to post up on our walls and cabinets and our tables. We are also looking forward to summer 2008 for warm sunshine days where we schedule fun out door Community Outings throughout the summer months.
