The summer months were described as “Travel Adored”. For each month in the summer we had a "theme day", with special events. Participants selected to experience Italian culture, Hawaiian life style and of course the good old U.S. of A. “A Day in Italy” was spent learning about the culture, language and music. A special luncheon was prepared by our participants. Hand rolled meat balls, spaghetti and salad, Then olive oil was used to dip the Italian bread. To top if off we had grape juice instead of wine.

For “U.S. of A" DaY we held a good old fashion Bar-B-Q with apple pie and all the fixings. Our “Hawaian Day” we attempted to halu-la dance, one gal stated, “There goes my hip” (joking of course). We all dressed up in Hawaian print shirts, wore floral leis and flowers in our hair. Some of us wore grass skirts. As you might realize by now, what’s a good party without good food. We prepared smoked pork, pineapple coleslaw, fresh fruits & vegs along side Hawaiian bread.

We continue to do other activities such as arts and crafts, various wood projects. Activities such as these help us maintain finger dexterity. Physical games like bowling, shuffle board, darts, chair exercise and toss games helps with maintaining our mobility and work on our balance. Other activity such as group crossword puzzles, word games, Family Feud game, and Price Is Right game helps us exercise our minds. Oh! We cannot forget BINGO.

Our community outings are always a great experience. Albuquerque Museum is always a big hit along with going to Nature Center, Farmer’s Market, Rio Grande Aquarium and Village Inn for coffee and pie. During activity planning we always get input from our participants and implement any given suggestion in up coming activity calendars. We do so in order to maintain a client centered program and help our participants feel empowerd.

Share Your Care has various therapists scheduled to enhance our program. We have Sue, the art therapist from VSA, who works with the participants enhancing our clients’ hidden talents. Sue is so overtaken by our participants work that she has taken upon herself to mat and frame our clients’ art work. We also have Jim the massage therapist, Jack the pet therapist and Nancy the yoga instructor. The participants seem to enjoy each therapist and have embraced the opportunity each one brings to help them maintain strengths.

We invite you to view our activity calendar for further information on various activities offered and daily schedule. If you wish to tour our program or would like further information about out the program please call, Dora Verdin-Everett, Program Coordinator at (505) 881-8982 ext. 26. We look forward hearing from you.
